Adult Shop: Adult Outlet II
Location: Westbury, New York
Adult Outlet II, located in Nassau County Long Island, is one of the few survivng adult shops remaing in the county who's ongoing existance has been challenged by the areas provincial attitudes.
Their advertisements are in the back of the local paper. It was definitely an eye catcher with the scantly clad woman in the advertisement. They advertised a huge inventory of DVDS, VHS movies, toys and lingerie. In an effort to reintroduce some spice to our intimate life, my husband and I decided to check it out.
In response to uptight legislative pressure it's location was was found off the beaten path. We past by the street, obscurely hidden in an industrial park numerous times. Finally, we found it! Apprehensive as we approached, I was relaxed to see an array of high end luxury cars parked outside the "porn shop". There was a BMW, Mercedes, Lexus and a couple of Jeeps, I was impressed with how mainstream this genre of entertainment has become. So all and all this was a good sign I was now confident that we were not likely to encounter a raincoat wearing derelict pleasuring himself in the corner.
They had a nice selection of lingerie, ranging in all styles and colors.As you entered the store, the lingerie was located right by door. This was a great location for women who are not yet courageous enough to enter all the way into the store but will like to purchase something different to wear for a Friday night.
Adult Outlet II has the latest and greatest in DVD and VHS. If you see it on the AVN new releases, you will see it here. The place reminded me of Blockbuster, categorized sections and easy to find items. The staff consist of all men under the age of 45. A woman might be a little uneasy with this testerone group, but believe me girls, one guy is nicer than the next.
They certainly have a good selection of toys, though the toys are positioned in a very awkward place of the store, so it makes it a little difficult to touch and ogle over the toys. We suggest moving it to a better part of the store where the lighting is better and there's more room to see the many different sizes of vibrators.
I felt comfortable enough to return to the store by myself and felt at ease with the staff. I think the store can really kick ass with their toy section relocated to a better lit and larger area. Their selection of videos and DVDs are excellent. The store can use a bit of a cleanup with brighter and contemporary signage. I would recommend that they would prohibit smoking in the store to avoid the lingerie from collecting the smell and lastly, my parting words, I recommend they add a woman to the staff .
I give Adult Outlet three stars.

The Secret Self, located in Nassau County Long Island, masquerades as a lingerie/adult shop is off a busy street. If you blink you might miss it. Parking is a horror, trying to find the tiny driveway. The backdoor which faces the parking lot is closed, so you have to walk all the way around to the front door.
On a mission, I was doing a home show in a couple of hours and I forgot to order latex spray for my RUBBAWEAR dress. Of course I went to my favorite show Adult Outlet II and they were all out. So I went out of my way to THE SECRET SELF.
A hole in the wall place, but you can't judge a book by it's cover, I entered the miniscle place. There were four woman in the shop. Good sign. The front of the store had some pretty lingerie pieces and the back of the store contained the "risque items". The woman behind the counter was putting batteries in a "FLEX A PLEASER" (I own an adult business, of course I know my toys). The woman behind the counter didn't even greet me as I entered the store. She looked up and asked, "Can I help you". I told her about my mission and she proceeded to say "NO". "Do you know of a place I can get latex spray.", I asked. "NO". She replied with no reaction on her face, no remorse, just this I don't give a crap,maybe if she used some of her products she would get a personality
Needless to say, I don't think I'll be going back there again.
My parting words to the Secret Self . Get staff with personalities, this is a customer service business. Take some lessons from Toys of Babeland. Voted #1 for customer service.
Do not bother coming here, unless it's the only store open and you need to get a vibe quick and I mean quick.

It was no accident when I walked into the Toys of Babeland store on a Sunday evening. My spouse and I signed up for an Anal 101 class. (Check out their website, they offer great classes for men and women on all aspects of sexuality, straight or gay.) After the class, my classmates and I were invited to practice what they preached. In other words we were invited to go through the store and shop for toys they demonstrated in class. (I know what you were thinking) Every salesperson was a woman, every salesperson knew their products and they all had a smile on their face. Wouldn't you, if were playing with dildos and vibrators all day. I observed each one of my classmates as they stepped up to the register with their new acquisition. We all had a great experience. It's no coincidence, they were vited #1 for customer service. Don't walk there, run there.
